Campus Appearance
Student registration at four-year colleges and universities is expected to peak in 2011. In the competition to attract new students and increase retention rates of current students, some institutions will flourish, while others will be forced to close their doors.
The appearance of your campus is a key determining factor as to why students choose your school over another, and responsibility for campus appearance, of course, resides within the Facilities Department. Consequently, it is vitally important not only that the Facilities Director have the resources at hand to materially affect how the campus looks and functions, but also that all aspects of the operation be well-coordinated as part of a strategic plan for improving Campus Appearance.
Temco offers Facilities Directors the opportunity to evaluate all Campus Appearance issues as a single function, with a single objective. By evaluating the delivery of services within the major program components, we have found ways to leverage on-site management, cross-train staff, manage sub-contractors and focus all available resources toward the common goal of maintaining your campus at the highest possible standard.
Major Components of a Campus Appearance Program include:
- Custodial Services
- Cosmetic Maintenance
- Grounds/Landscape
- Parking Lot/Sidewalk Maintenance
- Painting
- Floor and Wall Coverings

SCAMP™ Strategic Campus Appearance Master Planning
Temco also offers a value-added program, SCAMP™ Strategic Campus Appearance Master Plan, that provides for a comprehensive study and the development of a coordinated approach to address all current and future Campus Appearance issues.
Campus Appearance – one of the most important aspects of attracting and retaining students – is often overlooked in the planning process and instead is handled in a reactive manner. That can be tough on budgets and staffing down the road, when you suddenly have to replace wall covering or install new carpeting, for example.
Temco’s SCAMP program brings together the expertise needed to address today’s needs, tomorrow’s requirements and a plan for spanning the two in the most cost-effective manner.
To be a valuable planning tool, a Strategic Campus Appearance Master Plan should address the following areas:
|
Grounds & Landscaping
Residential Life
Wall Coverings
Safety
Campus Policing Practices
Floor Care & Floor Coverings
Waste Control and Removal
Sustainability & Environmental Issues |
Custodial Services
ADA Compliance
Building Exterior & Facades
Window & Sill Condition
Pavement, Parking and Walkways
Landscape Design |
The multi-departmental process of creating a Campus Appearance Master Plan requires the cooperation of many to make it successful; however, the results are lasting and the program is self-renewing. Learn more
